The Coal Tourism Village, located in the West Manggarai Regency, is distinguished by its unique cultural heritage, particularly embodied in the traditional Manggarai dance art that is organized and developed by Sanggar Porong. Despite its significant potential, the development of cultural tourism attractions in this village faces several critical challenges, such as the low interest among younger generations and the limited availability of supporting facilities. This study aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the strategic role of Sanggar Porong in the development and preservation of these cultural attractions. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing data collection methods including direct observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis to gather comprehensive data. The informants involved in this study include the chairperson and members of the sanggar, village government officials, traditional leaders, and local community members who are directly associated with the existence and activities of the sanggar. The findings indicate that Sanggar Porong plays three mutually reinforcing roles in cultural preservation efforts: as a developer who creates and maintains traditional dance attractions; as a facilitator providing space and opportunities for the younger generation to learn and express their culture; and as a motivator that encourages active community participation in maintaining and promoting traditional dance, both at the Coal Tourism Village level and within the broader Manggarai cultural context.
