This study aims to identify syntactic functions and describe the basic sentence patterns predominantly used in scientific article abstracts, as well as analyze the trends in the use of these patterns. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. This approach was chosen because the study material focuses on describing linguistic phenomena, namely the basic sentence patterns of Indonesian in scientific article abstracts in depth. The theoretical study selected for this research comes from Anton Moeliono, et al. in Tata Bahasa Baku Bahasa Indonesia (Standard Indonesian Grammar) on basic sentence patterns in Indonesian based on syntactic functions, such as subject, predicate, object, complement, and modifier. After the data was reduced, 12 articles were selected as the research objects, ranging from non-accredited, Sinta 6, 5, 4, and 3 accredited articles consisting of various disciplines, some of which were indexed by Google Scholar and Garuda, and some of which were not indexed by any database. The results of this study show that the S-P-Pel pattern dominates the use of sentences in scientific article abstracts with six occurrences. Furthermore, the S-P-O pattern appeared five times. Meanwhile, the least frequently used pattern was S-P-K, while the S-P, S-P-O-Pel, and S-P-O-K patterns were not found in the abstracts. In conclusion, authors of scientific article abstract more often use the S-P-Pel and S-P-O patterns than other basic sentence patterns.
